Engels The presence of a fluffy microphone in one shot and one instance of extremely unprofessional editing (the interview with the boss) can be forgiven, as Takeshi Kitano learned how to direct while shooting this. The film has a laid-back pace, symbolized by the protagonist walking around in the city, which matches the easy-to-follow plot and characters. Violent Cop is a simple crime movie with a traditional genre plot, but a non-traditional main character, who is everything here, as he is responsible for 80% of the viewer’s enjoyment, which lends originality to the film. Kitano has created a character that shows no emotion on his face and his response to what’s going on around him is to either feign ignorance or go on the attach. He is a character that will keep a dozen similar films afloat and will set the template for a new personality cult. And if you’re not a fan of this cult, you probably won’t feel like giving this movie four stars. ()
