Frankrijk, eind jaren ’20. Vrolijk en vrij van geest trouwt Thérèse met haar buurman Bernard Desqueyroux, waarmee ze het land van twee families tot één groot landgoed maakt. Bernard tolereert de sterke wil van zijn intelligente vrouw, maar hij kan niet voorkomen dat Thérèse zich opgesloten voelt en verveeld raakt. Het saaie leven op het platteland en de middelmatigheid van haar man wakkeren dromen over Parijs aan. Dromen over meer inspiratie, cultuur en uitdaging. Een wanhopige poging haar lot te veranderen loopt echter verkeerd af. Ze verliest niet alleen haar gezicht voor beide families, maar ook haar laatste hoop op vrijheid. (Dutch FilmWorks)

While watching this movie, I agreed with the reviewer Enšpígl in many ways. Not only does the story of Thérèse Desqueyroux stretch like a hairy dumpling in the mouth, it is also really boring. But even so, the film has certain qualities. For example, the camera shots of the French countryside were flawless. Audrey Tautou was nice, too, although her character would benefit from being a bit livelier. Well, the fact is that the creators of this film turned it into a chick flick. For this reason, the film reminded me a little of the equally strange French movie The Well-Digger’s Daughter.
