The idealists of 1918-19 are the heroes of this symbolic and ballad-like historical drama. Simon, the priest preaches Christian primitive communism. With stubborn naiveté he believes in a revolution "born in flowers", he wants to acquire the bishop's lands for the penniless people by peaceful means. His brother, Urenius, the teacher fights for the Hungarian Soviet Republic with arms. After their victory, Simon burns the weapons. It is too late when he realises that Urenius was right. White terrorist gendarmes murder women and children by the dozen, who only defend themselves by praying. They hang the brothers on a tree. (officiële tekst van distribiteur)
