Engels An attractive environment and interesting premise make for a stylish film, which is not a bad thriller you enjoy seeing once, but ends up being quite forgettable. ()

Engels I had to wonder if Stephen Daldry had any need to film such an uninteresting story, and in the style of Danny Boyle. He apparently did, but what surprised me even more (and I found out after the film) - the script was written by Richard Curtis. The film is of course professionally made in every aspect - direction, cinematography, music... But although at first I was really interested in what the story would turn out to be, from about the time of the prison visit to the end, I shook my head more and more and couldn't believe my eyes at what was happening. And I didn't like the final revolutionary call "When the people take to the streets one day" one bit. ()

Engels While the ending isn’t too exceptionally moronic, it still can’t manage to overcome the quality of a scene like "Hi, I'm a hot young single Brazilian girl who just came out to dance in the streets. I see you're rummaging through the trash looking for food. You wanna hang out, ugly black boy?". Anyway, let me see those planet Pupulon photos again... ()

Engels Quite nicely - I believe in terms of the credibility of the record - this film reflects how bad the situation of some people is in one of the largest cities in the world. Brazil is not a great place to live for everyone. Unfortunately, this film sometimes focuses too much on how everyone is poor, which can be off-putting. However, it is nice that it is harsh, action-packed, and still human. ()
