Süskind

The Netherlands has convinced me several times that during Second World War, there was also a huge number of powerful and emotional stories worth telling in their country. One realizes that during the Second World War there was not only the Englishman Winton or the German Schindler, but that such people included, for example, the Dutchman Süskind, who also took part in saving the children from a terrible fate. The film must get as much of your attention as possible, as it is necessary to watch every moment. Unfortunately, I can’t give it the full number of stars, because I was quite lost at some points. I wondered if it was caused by my own historical ignorance or a failure of the creators’ complicated storytelling and portrayal of the era. It’s hard to say. Nevertheless, the message of the film was clear and I did not miss it. A big plus of this film is that it does not look at people as Germans (the bad ones) and the rest (the good ones), but as people who have emotions and it is clear to them that some decisions are not easy to make. Anyway, hats off to the Cinemax channel that allowed me to see this movie. (05.07.2013)
