Recensie van 3DD!3 voor deze serie (3)

Season 1 (2019) (S01)

Engels The series often strays from the source material, but always for the best. The main motifs remain, but they are developed in a way that is more palatable for today’s audience. The oddness of the comic book jumps out at you in a few delightful scenes, like Hazel and Cha-Cha at the prosthetics center and Sean’s conversation with God. The ending is spectacular too; I’m curious about season 2 and how they tackle the comic book in season 3. Inventive development of a concept penned by the singer from My Chemical Romance. Originality has no bounds. ()

Season 2 (2020) (S02)

Engels The comic book is more mad-cap and frequently better than the series, though on the other hand, the TC adaptation is easier to understand. Originally, I didn’t expect it to be Dallas, because they gave away some of the plot in the first season, but the filmmakers improvised a little and it works just great, though saving JFK was a little far-fetched and the comic book handled the scene a little better. The open ending is very similar to the end of episode 3, again skipping the subplot with Hotel Oblivion. The black-lesbian-gay subplot is just there to string out the story, but it’s bearable. It’s a bit of a hash, but with very high-quality beef. Bring on the french fries! ()

Season 3 (2022) (S03)

Engels A shame about the constant time-wasting and the absolutely excruciating dialogs about Vanya’s transformation into an unpleasant boy. All discussions about relationships here bore one to tears and the first half would be absolutely unbearable without Number Five and his storyline. In comparison with the comic, this isn’t in any way bizarre. This is a completely different level of madness, which Way and Bá are specialists at. The screenplay deserved greater care, but if this is the last season, ok; it was fairly easy viewing and nice. ()
