Emma breeds pigs at the rundown, hopelessly indebted farm she inherited from her family. She feels a close bond with her animals and slaughters them with her own special form of tenderness. In lieu of a man she finds pleasure astride her deliciously vibrating old motorbike. But she still feels a certain longing and her only suitor, the village policeman Henner, doesn't fill the prescription. Max works for a car dealer. He, too, is alone. His stomach pains keep growing worse, and his doctor informs him that he doesn't have long to live. In a panic he steals a Jaguar and big bundle of money from Hans, his employer and only friend. Hans sets out in hot pursuit and Max' attempt to escape from his old life comes to an abrupt end - crashing, of all places, on Emma's farm. Emma can hardly believe her luck. Heaven has not only sent her a man who smells just like she has dreamt of, but also enough money to avert the impending compulsory auction of her farm. She hides the man, still unconscious, in her bed, and the money underneath. When Max wakes up, he is startled to find the delapitated farmstead and the sturdy woman. But he gradually gives in to her wooing and realizes that she not only provides a safe hideaway, but that he has also - at first - found his own personal paradise... (Berlinale)
