Engels Transsiberian features properly built suspense and unease in a strongly atmospheric setting, which is something that is not often seen in a thriller. The acting and directing are excellent. If the script, which otherwise works nicely with the characters’ psychology, came up with something original within the genre rules, I could have given this four stars. ()

Engels One clear good thing is the gradually growing chilling atmosphere that permeates the whole film. This is not only due to the engaging cold Siberian landscape, which gives the film the right drive, but also to the slowly escalating story, starting with a major turning point about halfway through, which culminates in a fight for bare life and one brutal torture scene, which I found physically uncomfortable. Thanks to the good performances of the actors, I was interested in the fate of the protagonists, I lived with them and even envied them a bit the initial romance of travelling by train. Brad Anderson has done a good job, though in a slightly different way than others expected (see the reviews here). ()
