Engels "The vampire. He is ruthless. And even more than ruthless, he is... tough..." Watched purely out of a desire to know what this Asylum is about. As I was watching, I started looking around confusedly for any clue that would put me at ease and clue me in to whether it was maybe some satirical joke. But it's not; the film seriously incorporates the most famous names of legends about bloodthirsty creatures and destroys them. Where is the classic drama of "will they get him with the wooden stake or not"? Where are the stylish vampire leaders who burn you with their gaze? And where is the Dracula in that big-mouthed title, anyway? I'll give you a hint: he meets a ridiculous death before the opening credits even begin! And unfortunately, instead of him, we're left with a bunch of clumsy or rather, hectically frantic wreckage. The vampires' journey is neither disgusting nor embarrassing. It's just insanely boring. One star for the repeatedly returning suggestive passage of Abraham sacrificing himself for the salvation of his beloved being. That's how much of a softie I am. ()
