Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is een illusionist wiens magie alle verwachtingen overtreffen. Wanneer de machtige kroonprins Leopold (Rufus Sewell) hoort over de verbazingwekkende bovennatuurlijke gaven van Eisenheim, besluit hij een van zijn shows bij te wonen met de intentie om hem tijdens zijn optreden te ontmaskeren. Als de verloofde van de prins, Sophie von Teschen (Jessica Biel), gevraagd wordt om de illusionist op het toneel te assisteren, blijken zij elkaar te kennen uit hun jeugd en dit is het begin van een romance die onontkoombaar lijkt. Hun geheime liefde ontwikkelt zich en de populariteit van Eisenheim neemt alleen maar toe. Dan zet Leopold politie-inspecteur Uhl (Paul Giamatti) onder druk om de illusionist te ontmaskeren. Terwijl Uhl een klopjacht opent om een verklaring te vinden voor de trucs van Eisenheim, bereidt deze zich voor om zijn grootste illusie ooit te realiseren. (Independent Films)
