Daniel Daréus is een succesvolle internationaal bekende dirigent die aan de top meedraait. Maar hij is ook eenzaam, voelt zich slecht en is de uitputting nabij door het jachtige leven dat hij leidt. Na een lichamelijke en emotionele inzinking besluit Daniel zijn carriere abrupt te onderbreken en keert alleen terug naar Norrland, het dorpje in het hoge noorden van Zweden waar hij zijn jeugd heeft doorgebracht. A massive disappointment. I love Scandinavia and the reviews on this made me enthusiastic about this movie. After watching it, I am not so positive anymore. The only plus of the movie itself is Michael Nyqvist, who maintans a more or less interesting role for the whole movie. It starts right at the beginning, where after moving to Sweden I expected some proper emotional ride. But what happened instead? It began like a Swedish soap opera with people with whom I wouldn’t even go for a pint of beer into some godforgotten Swedish pub. Approaching the finale I realized I do not care at all what is going to happen with the choir. Only the ending convinced me that this film was really made in Scandinavia. Otherwise I would think it was just stupid.
