Run Free: The True Story of Caballo Blanco

After running with Tarahumara Indians (or Rarámuri) in the Leadville 100 ultra-marathon in 1994, Boulder native and long-distance legend Micah True was inspired by their simple way of life and tremendous athletic talents. He began spending winters living and running in the Rarámuris' home base in Copper Canyon, Mexico, where he developed an urge to provide aid to the hunger-stricken area. This compelling documentary follows True—nicknamed Caballo Blanco, or "White Horse"—as he works to preserve the community and culture of the Rarámuri by starting an annual ultra-marathon in their hometown. After the race gains publicity through Christopher McDougall's book Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen, it begins to attract hundreds of runners—including some of the world's top athletes—and raise tens of thousands of dollars for the Tarahumara.
