Prelude: Dog Star Man

Samenvattingen(1)

Prelude is the opening film in a series of short experimental films in which Brakhage subjected the film material to physical and chemical manipulation. In this intimate diary, the female body is like unexposed film and its abstracted parts flow into the disintegrating emulsion. Brakhage seems to infiltrate the body and its nudity. Engels What can I say about this film? It is only a prelude, an introduction to something that is to follow. It's a vague introduction that says nothing. The paintings are scattered in various ways, without any order. I'd quite like to be in Brakhage's mind to see the creative process, to understand when he knew that this prelude should end. For my understanding, where everything must have at least a relative beginning, middle, and end, this simply isn't it. ()
