Tijdens een opstand wordt de vader van prins Einon vermoord. Hijzelf is zwaargewond, maar een draak redt zijn leven in ruil voor de belofte de zwakkeren te zullen verdedigen en af te zien van tirannie en geweld. Eenmaal koning geworden, ontpopt Einon zich nog als een veel grotere tiran dan zijn vader. Bowen geeft de draak hiervan de schuld en neemt zich voor alle draken in het land uit te roeien. Twaalf jaar later is hem dat bijna gelukt, slechts één draak rest hem nog. Maar hun gevecht eindigt onbeslist en dus sluiten ze een akkoord om als drakendoders van stad tot stad te trekken en veel geld te verdienen. Great fantasy where the most likeable dragon ever literally shines. The ending is incredibly moving and it makes me very soft inside.

This film remains fresh, entertaining, and funny. An easygoing affair, where the visual effects have aged only slightly and the main characters are still timeless and charismatic. A film with a clear message. It is slightly spoiled by a low rating, but nothing can be done about it. A legend in its time.

One of my most favourite films. A beautiful and entertaining adventure where you will have a great time and maybe even shed a tear at the end.

I used to really like this film, but as one gets older, they see that it's just a simpler Hollywood spectacle, which starts quite harshly but then turns into an adventure comedy, so the more serious tone that appears at the beginning doesn't resurface. This bothered me quite a bit, and the fact that it takes place in Slovakia didn't help either.
