Los Angeles, 2000. Skinner is een FBI-agent, die de dood onderzoekt van Izzy Goldkiss, de zoon van een mediamagnaat. Deze heeft zelfmoord gepleegd door van het dak van het befaamde Million Dollar Hotel te springen. Skinner maakt kennis met diverse vaste bewoners van het hotel. Maar vooral via zijn gesprekken met de verlegen Tom Tom, die verliefd is op de knappe maar introverte Eloise, krijgt Skinner de indruk dat Izzy's dood misschien toch geen zelfmoord was. The three pretentious stars are rather a satisfied evaluation. Wenders creates an atmosphere through captivating monologues and great camera work, while Gibson and Davies give their characters an incredible liveliness. However, the total disappointment for the viewer is the screenplay. Instead of a psychologically tuned game or at least a genre-unidentified combination, it simply jumps from place to place and indulges in peculiar characters. And I consider it a great sin that the much-promoted U2 accompaniment is not used to its full potential, as it only faintly murmurs in the background, except for the opening and closing credits.

Psychedelic nonsense. Boring, unintentionally ridiculous in places. And I still think U2 is the best rock-pop band of all time.
