There are many connections with his friend and colleague De Niro, but the strongest aspect of this documentary is its ability to capture how the Bronx native’s personal struggles and inner restlessness were mirrored in his early major roles. The documentary covers two key points in his career: the pre-shot scene of the killing of two mafia goons in The Godfather, which Pacino used to convince skeptical producers, and the beginning of a new era where, dressed in a cocaine suit, he was no longer just a New Yorker, but the world was definitively his.
